Building a near zero
energy home is
achievable today.

Homes that consume almost no energy. Homes that produce energy on-site. Homes with cleaner air. Advanced designs and integrated systems that are changing the way we think about residential construction. That’s what this Challenge is all about. The CT Zero Energy Challenge is a design and build competition that awards cash prizes to its winners, while educating and demonstrating how to build efficient homes.

Heron PondCelebration Development Group will showcase their "Green Commitment" in this very special competition that judges single and multi-family homes built in Connecticut between May 2009 and December 1, 2010. The Challenge will use the RESNET Rating Standards to determine each completed home's HERS Index. The home(s) with the lowest HERS Index will determine the winner(s) of the competition.

Celebration has entered the challenge with the Lot 9 Heron Pond project in Essex, CT. This design of this 4 bedroom, 2881 square foot residence substantially reduces heating and electrical costs, and utilizes the latest in sustainable products.

Special Features Include:

  • Geo-thermal heating and cooling system
  • Soy foam insulation
  • Solar energy panels ("Solar in a Box")

The CT Zero Energy Challenge's mission is to demonstrate that building a super high efficiency (near zero energy) home is achievable today, and to inform the public about the technology and techniques it takes to get there.
